Our 5 yrs. old – 2nd
Grade participants are taught Age Appropriate Basketball Skills
such as: Correct Shooting Form, Bounce Pass, Chest Pass,
Dribbling, Catch and Tuck, Jump Stops, and Pivots, They also play
“Line Basketball” ((a basketball lead up game).
Recognizing the shorter
attention span of the FUN AND FREEDOM “Future Hoopsters” we also
include activities such as Floor Hockey and Dodge Ball,
which have skills that parallel those used in basketball.
Floor Hockey reinforces bending knees, keeping hips
down, playing defense by protecting the goal, attacking while on
offense, passing to teammates, and moving into a position to
receive a pass from a teammate.
Dodge Ball teaches the “catch and tuck” skill used
in basketball passing, lower body stance with knees bent when
watching for thrown balls, reinforcing the same stance used while
playing defense in basketball.
Not only are the above games
FUN - they teach teamwork and good sportsmanship. |
